There are very few places on Earth where the desert meets the sea; Baja California is one of these few places. With a trip to Baja California, you can experience an exciting desert adventure along the turquoise sea and be enchanted by multicolored sunsets. This 14-day adventure trip will be dedicated to the discovery of Baja California, where you will experience spaces where few travelers have arrived, and you will encounter the extraordinary biodiversity and the most enchanting beauties of this territory. Remote beaches, multicolored deserts, breathtaking views, centuries-old cactus and the marvelous starry nights of Baja California can’t be replaced with anything else.
On the first day, after meeting the group at the hotel, we will leave on a private boat to explore the beautiful Island of Espiritu Santu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At this island, you will experience for the first time, the sea that Jacques Cousteau called “The Aquarium of the World”. After a journey of about an hour, we will arrive to a colony populated by playful sealions that often interact with the swimmers, swimming curiously around them. You can snorkel amongst the coral reefs swarmed by multicolored tropical fish. As we return, you may spot dolphins and you can swim with the whale sharks that remain in the bay of La Paz for most of the year. We will start heading towards Loreto along the legendary Highway 1. During the journey, we will make several stops in particular suggestive points, where you can admire the greatness of the desert, ancient canyons dug by the water and the beauty of the centenary cacti. You will have the opportunity to visit the best-preserved Mission of Baja California through a magnificent path in the middle of a canyon. In the afternoon, we will arrive to the Bay that lies South of Loreto where the camp will be set up for the first night under the stars. On the third day we will arrive to Loreto, the historic “magic town” with beautiful colonial buildings built around the first Jesuit mission founded in the late 1600s. In the morning we will visit the marine park, “Isla Coronado”, on a private boat where we will see rocks shaped by the erosion of wind and tides, white beaches composed of millions of fragments of coral and shells and a lush marine life. Pelicans diving to catch food, the unmistakable blue-footed sulas, ospreys, cormorants and many other bird species animate the magnificent views of the island. We will visit a colony of sea-lions and we can snorkel in its crystal-clear waters. After lunch on the island, we will return to land and visit the best-preserved Jesuit mission of Baja California and then return to Loreto for the evening. In the morning, after breakfast, our journey will continue north, towards the heart of Baja California. We will visit the lovely beaches of Bahia Conception and the small town of Santa Rosalia, a beautiful colonial settlement, home to a copper mine that helped develop the town in the 1800s. We will then cross a wonderful valley dotted with centenarian cacti and skirt the sierra until we reach San Ignacio where you can admire another one of the best-preserved Jesuit missions of Baja California. We will continue North and after a mixed path between asphalt and clay, we will reach the heart of the Vizcaino desert, Biosphere nature reserve. This landscape consists of a unique ecosystem in the world where animals and plants have adapted to the extreme desert conditions of this territory, with little rainfall and intense winds. It is an ecosystem that has produced thousands of endemic species of plants and animals that are not found anywhere else in the world. We can admire wonderful Centennial Cardon Cacti and the famous Cirios trees. After visiting several deserted beaches, we will arrive to an immense bay where we will stay overnight. In the morning on the sixth day, we will go out in the boat to admire different types of dolphins and whale sharks settled in those waters and visit some remote beaches. We will then continue the journey to the North on a mixed route, between asphalt and dirt road, until we arrive in one of the most beautiful bays of Baja California where we will stay overnight. On the seventh day we will start descending south, skirting the immense Pacific and visiting the fabulous sand dunes of the east coast. In the afternoon, we will visit a wonderful mountain village where we can admire ancient cave paintings and savor an ancient lifestyle. We will then proceed further south along a wonderful scenic road, making it to San Ignacio for the evening. Breakfast in the camp – Lunch on your own – Dinner on your own – Night at the hotel
We will continue to travel South on a mixed path of asphalt and dirt road, traveling along the edge of the immense lagoons of the Pacific Ocean, crossing plains and canyons witnessing ancient eruptions, where the layers of lava are still visible and draw distinct lines on the mountains. This ancient route we will take was one of the most important tracks of the Baja 1000, one of the most famous off-road races in the world. We will arrive in the evening to a village on the banks of a river where we will stay overnight. Breakfast on your own – Lunch in the camp – Dinner on your own – Night in the camp (Optional Cabins)
On the ninth day, after traveling a mixed route between asphalt and off-road, we will reach the immense Bahia Magdalena. We will explore this almost virgin land, characterized by a complex maze of mangroves that house cormorants, osprey, blue herons, egrets and petrels. Today will be dedicated to visiting Bahia Magdalena, where we can spot colonies of cormorants and sea lions by boat. We will also visit the immense dunes of the island that serves as a barrier to the Pacific Ocean. After lunch, we will proceed to La Paz visiting wonderful ocean beaches along the way. Today, we will visit the Marine Park of Cabo Pulmo, the only coral reef in North America. We will snorkel and admire the beauty of a marine environment protected for more than 20 years, observe an unimaginable amount of different marine species, and appreciate the perfect state of conservation of this Marine Park. Today will be dedicated to the relaxation we will feel within the bay where we can take advantage of the time to snorkel in this wonderful bay. After breakfast in the hotel, we will leave La Paz to visit the famous magical town of Todos Santos, a town that offers fresh and enjoyable temperatures in the summer. We will explore some beaches where you can swim and encounter the Pacific Ocean. In the evening, we will return to La Paz and deliver the cars.
